The pictures of this show a tea candle underneath the slanted beginning/outside part of the snake, but there is not one in the package. I figured no big deal, and used a firestarter... it took a really long time to light and hard to keep going... this is a lot smaller than it looks in the pictures and its possible that there isn't enough room for pellets to stay lit. I'll keep trying but it shouldn't be that hard. After I used it once, I removed it and left it next to my grill. It rained lightly and it was rusted the day after. I suspect the heat from the grill damaged the "stainless" steel finish. So it also doesn't seem well designed for heat. Still, if you want to add some smoke to your grill it will do so, but with way too much effort, and doesn't seem built for the long haul. -Best of Luck

I've not used this extensively yet. I tried it with some apple pellets to add some smoke to my small gas grill. I lit it with my cooking torch, with just the first few inches fille it burned for about an hour. I think the finely shredded wood would work better, but the pellets weren't bad. How well this works depends greatly on how airtight the chamber is. My grill had too many vents to get the level of smoke I wanted. I'm planning on using this indoors. I have a strong hood that vents outdoors to control any escaping smoke. I'm going to use this in a large pot (turkey fryer) to smoke fish and cheese. I've seen this done before with the chips in the bottom of the pan on a burner, this ring will be much better and safer, and should allow a good smoke without over cooking the fish. The burner is well made, especially considering the low price. I look forward to having smoked salmon in the, middle of the winter when I can't fire up mine outdoors.

Good addition ot my BBQ arsenal. The item is a metal rack made to do cold smokes on lighter food, like cheeses. Fill with wood dust, or in my case i used pellets, place a candle underneath to light and place in your grill to smoke. Be careful, once lit, it is metal so it becomes hot to the touch. Not all material lights or stay lit easily. You may have to try some variations to find what works for you. I like it.

Tried it right away, the material is thicker than other products I've used, seems to be a very durable cold smoke grill. It stayed lit for 6 hours when I first used it and just worked perfectly.

Tried EVERYTHING to keep it lit. Tea light as it was designed, used propane torch, nothing would keep the ambers lit. Dried out the wood dust/shavings in the oven to remove moisture (if there was any). Not happy ruining my salmon.
