Fun and easy way to monitor noise level in a school cafeteria!

I bought this because it claims to need calibrated for accurate use. This meant to me that it COULD be calibrated. After receiving and trying it out, I went to the directions then the internet looking for how to get it into calibration mode (I do have a calibrator) and there doesn't seem to be any. returned product.

If you ever find yourself trying to describe how loud something is, say, a dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, or your housemate's Karaoke night, you might have some difficulty in conveying your meaning. Is it louder than a car backfiring? Softer than a dog's bark? Almost as loud as a jackhammer, but not quite? The "Aicevoos Decibel Meter spl Meter Sound Level Meter" is a fantastic tool that can help you describe loudness more precisely. The excellent, color LCD can read out a constant, precise measurement of the sounds reaching its built-in microphone in decibels. For a compact and economical device, it is packed with features. Measurements can be taken in either A or C frequency weighting, and Fast or Slow time weighting. These weightings have different applications, as the included User Manual surveys. Additionally, there are functions for freezing the display, automatic or manual ranging, and displaying the minimum or maximum sound level measured in a session. The unit is powered by 3 AAA batteries which were not included in the package. The meter also has a USB socket and comes with a USB cable for connecting to a PC. A mini-CD is included, containing software which is said to allow the device's various readings to be visualized on a PC display. I could not get this function to work. The software appeared to install fine, but my installation of Windows 11 did not detect the connected meter. This would normally merit the reduction of the rating by one star, however, in this case, given that the connectivity option was not important to me (and honestly I can't see it being too useful to anyone, given that it's just a graphic proxy of the device's LCD, and offers no further enhancements), and allowing for the possibility that the problem lies with my virtual machine installation of Windows and not the device or its software, I will not reduce its rating because of this issue. Besides the aforementioned accessories, the meter also comes with a foam windscreen which dampens wind noise. One curious item found in the manual puzzled me: "Calibrate the instrument before each use if possible. Especially if the meter has not been used for a long period of time." Sounds like a reasonable consideration, but the manual never mentions calibration again, leaving the details of how this could be accomplished as an exercise for the user. The Aicevoos is a fine instrument, albeit with a few minor quirks, and I am glad to own and recommend it.
