Faraday Fabric - Faraday Cloth for EMP Shield and Faraday Cage (43" x 72")...

This is a thin (.004) material that is made of copper and nickel. I need to do more testing, but for sure it will stop wifi and bluetooth signals (inbound and outbound) from, and going to, my phone. I'm not 100% sure how all this works but the pattern on the fabric is very similar to a microwave oven door window and I think that stops some of the waves. Arctic Eagle has an app that will verify the level of signal transmission/ rejection if you have doubts. Because of how thin the material is it can probably be used as a sewn in liner as long as the thread is conductive. Neat stuff.

I can verify that even a single layer of this fabric will block my cell phone's connection to cell service, WiFi, and bluetooth. My WiFi router is only maybe 10 feet from my desk, and it's completely blocked. I tried a bluetooth device only inches from my phone and it was blocked. So long as the phone is completely surrounded by the fabric, it will block signals. The conductivity is very high. Ohms out as a dead short. The quality of the fabric itself is very good. It's soft and flexible. The edges can fray, but it seems relatively resistant to fraying within reason. As-is, this will block all signals if that's what you're going for. For EMP/CME-type protection, I've never been through one so it's theoretical for me. My understanding is you'll want several layers of something like this, with some non-conductive fabric or plastic between conductive layers. Internal layers should not make contact with each other, remaining electrically isolated. The more layers the better the protection. I believe 5 layers is the go-to.

I got this out of curiosity because I wanted to see if it really worked. It seems to be of good quality. I've made a small Faraday cage - a cardboard box lined on all sides with this stuff - to house my mobile devices when they're not in use and it seems to work. I'm not an engineer, or anything near it, so I can't really offer a technical assessment or review based on lab testing or anything like that. I'm just an ordinary person.

This works surprisingly well for such a thin fabric. Only a single layer is needed to block signals. In addition to the obvious use of making a Faraday cage or EMP shield to protect electronics and contain any emissions, it also works to turn an ordinary wallet or purse into an RFID shield to keep credit card info from being stolen using a scanner. Cover the credit card area with this fabric and the cards cannot be scanned. Want to be undisturbed by phone calls or text messages? Slide your phone between layers of this material and fold it over - it completely shields your phone from outside access. Although it is very fine and flexible material, be aware that it is made with nickel-coated copper. You may quickly ruin quality fabric scissors if you use them to cut it. I have used Cutco shears and tin snips to cut the cloth. After reading several reviews of this product, I think it's important to note what you need to do to maintain the shield. Simply placing a layer of the material over an object is not sufficient. There must be an electrically closed connection. No wires can pass through the sealed fabric because they will serve as an antenna. That means whatever is inside must either be unpowered or self-contained. If you create a Faraday cage with external power, the signals will only be reduced, not stopped. In addition, there must be a complete electrical connection surrounding the shielded items. If there any gaps or any sort of insulating material preventing a complete electrical connection, there will be signal leakage. In addition, this product is a fabric, not a solid conductive sheet. If you hold it up to the light, you can see through it. That means that signals of a high enough frequency will not be blocked. I don't have the technology needed to determine what the highest frequency is that will be blocked, but it is above 5 GHz, the current band used for WiFi connections. If you are concerned about EMF pollution or particularly sensitive to it, use the largest size fabric to create a shield around your bed. You probably will not be able to make an electrically sealed shield and still have it be practical for use, but it will significantly decrease the amount of EMF you are exposed to during sleep. Particularly for those who experience headaches from WiFi and 5G signals, it could provide some relief. Just realize you cannot have wired lamps or other devices inside the shield and expect to get the most available protection. Obviously, it also means you won't be browsing your cell phone or tablet while in bed, either. Come to think of it, that might not be a bad thing at all...
