I ordered these for my 90 year old Mom. They were a little confusing to put together but seem to do the job. Mom has decided they are too complicated to clean & fiddle with and went back to her old feeder.

This device did a good job of keeping the hummer food from freezing up in sub 20 degree weather. Easy enough to assemble and install. HOWEVER, make sure that you have some space between the top of the bulb and the bottom of your feeder, or you may have the bulb melting a hole in the bottom of the feeder. Don't ask me how I know....

My experience with this heater has been great when used correctly. I had put the heater snug against my plastic feeder and it melted the feeder and ruined it. So next plastic feeder I used, I hung the heat lower away from the base of the plastic feeder and it has worked perfectly since. The humming birds seem to love to sit longer and warm their toes! If you have a glass hummingbird feeder base it would probably work great snug up against the feeder, but plastic bases probably need space between the heater and the base. It does not get very cold in the I-5 valley of Oregon where I live. However, the few freezing days of winter that we do have, I have found these heaters to work excellently to keep the feeders unfrozen. I bought the least expensive ones too. The first one did not come with a light bulb, but the double set did.

With 3 days in a row of subfreezing daytime temps in the Pacific Northwest, we were concerned about how our hummingbirds would survive. We ordered this warmer and the cover for the top of our feeder (Eyrosa 11.2" Metal Bird Feeder Rain Guard, Red Dome Cover Umbrella Shade for Hummingbird) and they both worked great! The temperature of the sugar water was perfect -- not too hot like another reviewer mentioned. The liquid stayed liquid throughout the 16-degree days and the metal perch wasn't too cold for their little feet. Assembly instructions could use improvement. There are 2 white rings -- one without instructions. You just screw them on either side of the smaller red cup that secures the light bulb. There was a bit of a gap between the rim of the warmer and the bottom of the feeder, so I used some carpet tape to fill it in. If you have electrical foam tape, that would be better, but this worked. We had sleet and freezing rain overnight, but the light was still on in the morning. I also put some waterproof duct tape over the little on/off switch, as that doesn't seem safe for outdoor use. With these modifications, the heater held up in our freezing temps. Very grateful that such a product exists!

Its 9 degrees Fahrenheit with massive winds bringing the temps down to negative 30 degrees Fahrenheit & its still liquid! Didnt fit my current bird feeders though, so I brought the attachment to the store to fit it on various feeders. Im sure I couldve figured out a way to make it work (not as effectively) with my current feeders (one style was too big & the other too small), but I didnt want to compromise the effectiveness of the product. Instructions were easy to follow. ( The instructions are missing 1 detail about the red disc. The red disc goes in the cup & then next screw in the bulb). I already had a much more expensive heated bird feeder which our local store was out of, so I ordered these. They work better than the $45 feeder! That feeder froze all the way through by 10am this morning, but the feeders with this attachment are still liquid. Wow, Im impressed. Ill be purchasing more of these. Thank you! Suggestion: well before you need to use this attachment try it on your current feeder so you have time to order a different feeder if thats necessary. This feeder wont work well with feeders with metal surrounding the underside of the feeder. Does best with wide & flat bottom feeders with a perch for the birds feet.
