I had a lot of vintage Pyrex and was surprised to learn most have lead in them. But even more surprising was the dishes being made today also have lead in them. It changes to a pink color immediately with high lead products, slightly with others maybe not so high. And of course not at all with lead free. I feel all companies should let you know if they are made with lead but they dont unless its for children. A lot of products with lead have a glaze over them that is lead free. So as long as the glaze is intact they should be safe. I feel better having grandkids now testing things that are geared towards qthem to see if they are lead free.

I love this products is cheap and it will tell you if your paint or surface has lead or not.

Found the coolest looking pewter shot glasses at a thrift shop. Someone told me they were made of pewter which can often have lead in it. I bought this test kit to see and sure enough it came back dark red on the outside and medium red on the inside. I just lost the ability to use the coolest shot glasses I've ever seen in my entire life and I'm very sad about this but at least I'm not getting lead poisoning.

I became extremely stressed when EVERYTHING I tested with these swabs turned dark purple indicating lead! I became sick to my stomach thinking I was not only killing myself but killing my parrot with lead contaminated items. EVERYTHING! I used up an entire jar in my panic and ordered a second one to continue testing. However, it was this second jar that caused an epiphany. Instructions say to wet the swab with water until it turns mustard color. Shake off the water, then perform the test. As I was holding a new swab under THE RUNNING WATER FROM MY KITCHEN FAUCET it never turned mustard color. Instead it became deep purple almost instantly! This indicates that my faucet water was causing the chemical reaction indicating lead. So, I began using PURIFIED WATER to dip my swabs in. Success! I went back and re-tested everything that had indicated lead a few days before. I was relieved to find that 90% of those items were clear. The remaining 10% indicated lead, and those items will be removed. So this was a big lesson for me, and the instructions on the bottle should stress to use purified water rather than tap water. All in all, these swabs are easy to use and please note, I did not use them on painted surfaces such as walls. I used them on kitchen items such as dinnerware, cookware, drinkware.
