While I consider the value to be poor for general vegetables, I find it to be fair for counter top herb gardens. I have not had to fertilize mine at all. While store bought varieties are cheaper - my herbs and leafy greens need more "ummph" sooner. This product allows me to stretch fertilization schedules longer which saves me time (and money) while fertilizing. It feels good and soft in my hands, it is very loamy. There were no foul smells either and NO FUNGUS GNATS. All in all I consider this to be great for herbs and lettuce, but not so good for actual vegetables at this price point.
