I recently purchased the self-watering wicking cord for my plants as we were going out of town for almost a month, and I didn't have anyone to water them. I was pretty skeptical about how well it would work, especially since I didn't have time to do a trial run and had to set it up the day we were leaving. I left hoping for the best. Fast forward to yesterday, we got home, and my plants were alive! The water was pretty much gone, so I think it may have run out in the last couple of days, but the plants were still alive, though a bit dry. Given my initial lack of confidence, I was pleasantly surprised. Here are a couple of tips based on my experience: 1. Follow the Instructions: The instructions are very helpful in figuring out the water flow. 2. Do a Trial Run: If you have time, do a trial run so you can adjust as needed. 3. Adjust the Setup: If I need to use it again, I would tweak the setup to avoid running out of water and possibly send a slower flow to the smaller plants. 4. Ensure Plenty of Water: Make sure you have plenty of water available. I didn't have time to get a 5-gallon bucket, but I'll make sure to grab one next time. 5. Prevent Messes: Put something under your plants and water source to catch any drainage. I had something under my big plants, but not under the smaller ones, and water leaked out. It wasn't too bad, but it's something I'll adjust next time. Overall, I was very happy with the self-watering wicking cord. It exceeded my expectations and kept my plants alive during our time away.

I was a little skeptical that this would work, but after a 21-day trip, our plants looked very happy when we got back. We had several stations set up around our house and had someone just refill the gallon jugs. The plants were taking just what they needed instead of being over- or under-watered. We've started using these all of the time on a couple of large plants that we winter in-doors.

We were leaving for an extended vacation - over 3 weeks. I had been desperately scouring the internet for any/all ideas on how to protect my "babies." I have a large collection of indoor plants. I read just about everything you can imagine. I ordered and tried several globe type things, etc., to test run before we left. None of them worked. The water just drains all out. I was running out of time. Literally, as a last ditch effort, I ordered this wick cord. To say I was/am floored is an understatement. I decided to set up a test run to make sure they would work. I followed their directions to a "T." My first shock was the next morning they were working perfectly. No empty bottles - the cords were still wet - it was actually doing the job! I was so grateful. When we returned after over 3 weeks, 100% of my plants & orchids were in perfect condition!! As a matter of fact, we could have been gone even longer. Honest to God. I literally cried tears of joy. I thought I was going to lose them all. We set them all up a few days before we left to ensure all was working. I did group them all together in one area, close together with a low light level. It worked perfectly. Who knew, the least expensive solution was the best! God bless these people.

Used this cord for a group of 6 plants while gone for a month, using a large dutch oven in the middle of the group of plants as the water source. I tested it in advance and saw that the cord quickly absorbed the water and got so wet that water droplets actually dripped off the cord so it was almost too much water for my type of plants that only need a little, but consistent moisture. Be sure to read the instructions about positioning, testing and the part where it says to tie knots in the cord to slow down the water flow if it gets too wet. I tied knots and repositioned the cord and left it that way for a month. When I returned home, the dutch oven was empty but the plants were still moist. Time will tell if the roots of the plants got too saturated, but the good news is the cord did its job easily and effectively.
