Glad this came today. Went to try it out and theres a dead mole and lots of leaves and spiders in the skimmer. It was easy to use and kept me from touching any of that! I like that it extends and retracts for storage.

I just got my pool skimmer basket pole and took it outside to try it out. It has several sections of adjustment and can get quite long - About 5 feet (really longer than you'd probably need to reach a pool skimmer basket lid). When fully extended, the pole is quite flimsy. I backed it off a bit and only extended it to about 3 feet. Even then it still feels slimsy and I doubt it will hold up. The lid on my skimmer is quite tight, and even removing with my hands can sometimes be a pain. I was able to get it removed with this pole, but it bends slightly as I'm removing it and it feels like it could break. If your skimmer basket is loose, then this might work fine for you, but if it's even somewhat tight, you might want to try a more robust, heavy duty pole.

We made up an aluminum pipe with wooden dowels at either end. The dowels held cup hooks or sometimes larger hooks to pull up pool debris baskets. They worked well enough but the hooks pulled out and the dowel pieces had to be screwed on to do the job. Then we found this hook in the pool section. It has a much larger hook, the pole length is adjustable and it can be tightened by turning the handle while holding the shaft. It does a superb job of getting the debris basket pulled our so it can be cleaned. It is also great for pulling up the pool sweep or adjusting the hose. It is just right for grabbing our floating pool thermometer. Great tool at a great price.

I hate sticking my hand down in to the pool skimmer basket SO much. I hate the bugs and the muck and the possibility that a snake or frog might be down in there, or hiding in the skimmer. Ick! This hook is excellent. I can keep all that grossness at an arm's length and also I use it to take the square plate off the skimmer as well. You do have to keep tightening the end of the hook though, or it swivels around and that's kind of a pain. But If I get the length I want just right, then I'll wrench it tightly with some channel locks. Excellent product for those who don't like creepy crawleys!

Came assembled and ready to use. It can be closed down for easy storage in a drawer if you so desire. Only downside side is that it collapses to easy.
