This is a neat product. It's really irritating when you accidentally don't close the valve on your rain barrel (or the valve doesn't close all the way). With a ball valve, when you shut it off, it's off! I appreciate the brass (not cheap plastic) construction and the included flange, bulkhead fitting washer and nut. This model also has an interesting feature: it works natively with 3/4" PEX style pipe, or irrigation drip pipe. So, if you've got a rain barrel project on the horizon, grab one of these valves.

Bulkhead adapter is very good, but valve is cheap. Does not work with a standard garden hose. The valve fitting into the bulkhead adapter needs lots of tape or plumbers goop otherwise it is very loose. I am going to put a regular hose bib valve on this and get rid of the valve that came with it.

I got this for a rain barrel project that I have been wanting to do for a few years now. It rains a lot here and I also live on a hill, so I though why not try it to water my garden. The Spigot itself seems to be very well made, the machining is clean, threads are well cut. The handle is nice and stiff as it should be. It uses a ball valve, so you only need to move the handle a quarter turn to be fully open. Your standard garden hose screws right up to the end. My garden get plenty of rain most of the time, but sometimes a get spells without rain and this really helps keep the rain water consistent from day to day. I just use the rain gutter down spout to send water into the barrel with an overflow pipe near the top if we get to much rain. I very much like this product and will be buying another one for making another rain barrel project. Very easy to do, comes with the seals for the barrel and everything.

This kit doesn't just turn a 55 gallon drum into a rain barrel, it can convert just about any watertight container into a container with a tap. For example, you can quite easily turn a gallon milkjug into a portable handwashing station. There are a ton of uses for this tap, but I did end up using it for a rain barrel. Plastic containers wear out, but this part looks and feels like it'll be around for quite awhile. Don't fear putting holes in your containers, there are plugs to fix mistakes. You could also add multiple spigots, as well, and create a rinsing station for a community garden, work party, etc. You'll want to use a 1" spade bit or hole saw for creating the hole and you might need to work the hole a smidge larger, to accomodate the 1" diameter threads. I would suggest deburring , or removing sharp edges, from whatever material through which you drill. It's worth noting, the spout of the tap is barbed. You can cut and install any garden hose with an inner diameter of 1/2" (most of the typical hoses) and get yourself a hose clamp to secure it without leaks. The NPT threads allow for a wide variety of connectors, if you ever want to 'hard plumb' it for whatever you'd like, like timed irrigation, etc.
