They work well for a simple 1 to 1 inline splice. Trying to perform a 2 to 1 can be tricky. It is very easy to pucture the sidewall with a strand of wire while placing it into the connector. Once that happens and you start to heat it, it will melt a big hole and the inner solder will melt and ooze out through that hole.

I really feel like my butt connections are as secure as they can possibly be with these. I suppose real solder may be better, but what a hassle that is! If you want to go to that much trouble, go ahead, but these are a breeze to use and they are not coming apart! Love these! I got these because I was installing LED Lights onto a roof rack, and I was out of the appropriate-sized shrink tubing so I figured I would try these out for in-line splices. I wanted them to be waterproof on the connectors since I was using DT waterproof connectors, I wanted an easy installation, and I wanted to try these out since I had previously been using normal shrink tubing and solder. This kit was great because it was easy to slide on one end of the wire, twist the wires together and then slide the tubing over. Then I pulled out the heat gun and just watched the solder melt and go into the wires while the tube shrink. The wrap looks tight around the wire and the solder looks like it was a clean connection. I like the variety of applications I could use this for since they include so many pieces and they include more of the common wire sizes so that is convenient. I like the case and it keeps it easier to stay organized. Overall, great buy and I would highly recommend for someone who is not good with a soldering iron, or using these to make splices where waterproof is an important quality.
