They drill holes like a standard drill bit would. As far as cutting materials sideways, even plastic, not really. I ended up getting out the dremel for this type of cutting. These bits are nothing special.

They do better on wood and drywall than anything. Drill another hole or use a bigger bit. It's cheap enough to try it. I didn't get nice chip removal while drilling cause of the short flutes. Don't plunge too deep or you can get caught up. Tried it initially on 1/8 steel. Slow and dull at the end even with tap oil. The "milling" part wasnt much better. Put a smaller one and repeat the process on 1/8 aluminum and it doubled in speed and tripled the life for a total of 24 inchs.

So far, Ive only used these bits on plastic, so I dont know how they would work on other materials, but theyre fantastic on plastic! I have a plastic lawn chair that has a drain hole in the seat for when it rains, but the hole wasnt big enough to drain the water properly. Even when the chair was full of water, and youd think it would run out, it would just drip slowly. I tried enlarging it with the bits I had. Even though I worked at it several times, the hole just wasnt big enough. Plus, the bit left little bits of plastic around the edge of the hole on the underside which impeded the flow of water. These titanium bits were just the ticket to solve my problem. I used the 8mm bit to enlarge the hole, then used the serrated edges to make it bigger. I found that coming in at an angle from the top edge of the hole towards the center, then doing the bottom edge of the hole from the opposite angle, was the way that worked best to accomplish that. I cleaned up any burrs and bits that were left by lightly running the serrated part of the bit up and down, and every which way, around the hole. Now I have a chair that drains much better than it did. I, also, had the same problem with a hose reel cart that has a tray for tools with a drain hole. I used the 8mm bit in the same fashion, and it worked equally as well on the tray as it did on the chair. The seat on the chair is 3/16 thick. The tray on the hose reel cart is 5/16 thick. The titanium, serrated drill bit worked just as well on one as the other, and Im pleased. These bits have found a home in my pink and black jaguar toolbox.
